2014 Topps Gypsy Queen #201 Ben Revere

Phillies 9, Nationals 8 (11 Innings)
Game 140 - Friday Night, September 5th in Washington
Record - 65-75, 5th Place, 14 1/2 games behind the Nationals

One Sentence Summary:  The Phillies stunned the Nationals with a 9-8 come-from-behind victory in 11 innings.

What It Means:  There are probably only one or two games a season when I'm just too tired to stay up and watch a Phillies game through to the end.  And then I wake up the next morning, check the score, and really wish I had stayed awake.  This was one of those games.

What Happened:  Ryan Howard hit a solo home run in the top of the seventh to make it 5-2 Nationals and then I called it a night.  The Nationals added two more runs in their half of the seventh to go up 7-2.

The Phillies, who are playing better now than they have all season, scored two in the eighth to cut the margin to 7-4 Nationals.  Domonic Brown led off the top of the ninth with a walk, and Carlos Ruiz homered to left to suddenly make the game very interesting.  With two outs, and two strikes, Ben Revere hit his second career home run, tying the score and ultimately sending the game into extra innings.

It wasn't pretty, but the Phils prevailed in 11 thanks to some sloppy play by the Nationals and another RBI (this time on just a single) from Revere.

Featured Card:  Revere's 3 for 5 night raised his average to .316 and gave him a two point lead over the Pirates Josh Harrison for the N.L. batting crown.  This is his card from this year's Gypsy Queen set, released way back at the start of the season.
