2011 Choice Williamsport Crosscutters #17 Cody Asche

Blue Jays 6, Phillies 5 (10 Innings)
Game 31 - Tuesday Night, May 6th in Philadelphia
Record - 15-16, 5th Place, 2 1/2 games behind the Braves

One Sentence Summary:  Cody Asche's dramatic game-tying grand slam was all for naught as the Blue Jays came back to win it in the 10th, 6-5.

What It Means:  I guess I shouldn't be surprised that this is how the Phillies season is going so far.  The "experts" had this team hanging around .500 (or a little lower) this season, and that's exactly where they are, about a fifth of the way through the season.

What Happened:  Cole Hamels struggled again, allowing five runs on 10 hits in his six innings of work.  Trailing 5-0, the Phillies plated five runs in the bottom of the sixth, capped by Asche's slam.  However, reliever Antonio Bastardo couldn't keep the Blue Jays off the board in the 10th.

Featured Card:  Given Asche's status as one of the team's top prospects, it's surprising to me just how few baseball cards he's had in his professional career.  Back in the early 2000s, the card manufacturers couldn't print cards of guys like Anderson Machado fast enough, but Asche has received only sporadic cardboard appreciation.

Asche was drafted in 2011, and that was the first year I added a few of his cards to my collection.  He appeared in the 2011 Bowman Draft Prospects insert set (both regular and Chrome versions) and he received his first minor league card as a member of the Williamsport Crosscutters.
