Rockies 5, Phillies 3
Game 125 - Tuesday Night, August 20th in Philadelphia
Record - 55-70, 4th Place, 21 games behind the Braves
One Sentence Summary: The Phillies managed three singles in a lifeless 5-3 loss to the Rockies.
What It Means: It means it's getting easier for me to turn these games off and get some extra sleep.
What Went Wrong: Tyler Cloyd, filling in for an injured John Lannan, allowed five runs on eight hits over his six innings of work.
Featured Card: Thanks to everyone who added comments to this post, in which I asked whether or not Ryne Sandberg's 2013 Cubs cards should enter into my Phillies collection. I'm officially adding Rule #2a to Jim's Phillies Collecting Rules™, which is to take them if I get them. I'll add Sandberg's base Cubs cards to my 2013 Phillies Wantlist, and if the cards come my way, so be it.
This is Sandberg's card from the second Phillies team issued set, and I imagine we'll see one of these cards in set 2.1 with an "interim manager" designation.
P.S. I've already added new acquisition Roger Bernadina's 2013 Topps Gypsy Queen card to my 2013 Phillies binder.
Despite the walk-off wins the last two nights (which, by the way, I did see on TV after attending this "lifeless 5-3 loss" in person--an excellent description, by the way), I am thinking of dropping my family's season tickets next year, which we have had since 2009. I don't see this team turning it around anytime soon. I see a much more likely scenario being the 1984-1992 Phillies coming up. The family is less and less interested in attending, and despite having a Sunday plan with a nice view behind home plate at a reasonable price for 5 aisle seats, they are virtually unsellable on StubHub these days. So if I don't go, we also automatically lose between $1 and $15 per ticket. Uggh. Meanwhile, if I wanted to take the family tonight, I can right now buy 5 lower level outfield tickets together for just $22.90 each. I think next year we will just score tickets on StubHub and let someone else take the loss. I guess I may have to pay a premium for my Opening Day tickets, but that'll be less than the losses I am taking on the season tickets I can't use.
ReplyDeleteI have a feeling a lot of people will be coming to the same season ticket decision this winter (as a lot did last offseason).
I recently talked to my wife about our season tickets and we decided to renew for '14. However, we had been talking about adding a few seats (for a total of 4) to our package, but we're definitely holding off on that for now.
ReplyDeleteThursday night's game was like a game at The Vet circa 1996. Plenty of room in our row and section and whole sections completely empty.
