Game 32 - Sunday Afternoon, May 5th in Philadelphia
Record - 14-18, Tied for 3rd Place, 5 games behind the Braves
One Sentence Summary: A possibly injured Roy Halladay got lit up (again) and the offense contributed just four hits in a deflating 14-2 loss to the Marlins.
What It Means: The Phillies never even had a chance. I sincerely hope this represents the team's low point for the season.
What Went Wrong: Halladay was off from the beginning. His first inning was like a slow-motion train wreck - walk, ground out, walk, hit by pitch, two-run double, walk, pop up, bases-clearing triple, strike out. He actually retired the Marlins in order in the second before loading the bases and giving up a grand slam to Adeiny Hechavarria in the third.
Halladay's final line is nightmarish - 2 1/3 innings, 4 hits, 4 walks, 9 runs. Shortly after the game, Halladay revealed that his shoulder was bothering him and he'd be visiting with Dr. Lewis Yocum. A trip to the DL is likely.
Not that it mattered, but the offense was lethargic again. In the eighth, the Phils plated their first run in 20 innings on a walk, infield single and a Marlins throwing error. Not exactly something to get excited about.
Featured Card: Who knows when Halladay will be back? And if he comes back, will he ever be the dominant pitcher he once was? The whole thing makes my stomach queasy.
I was waiting for a good game from Halladay to post this Dealing Aces insert card from the 2013 Topps Gypsy Queen release. Instead of waiting any longer, I'll post it now and hope for the best for Doc's future.
eesh...cover your eye awful weekend all around. is jose fernandez the next nemesis?
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't look good for Roy, what with him heading to LA to see Dr. Yocum.... Hopefully he can come back and at least be a good, crafty pitcher, if no longer the best in the game like he has been on and off over the past decade.
ReplyDelete(Hopefully he also is well enough to be at the ALS Phestival on May 16, but that's not looking good either....)
My One Sentence Summary was originally: Poop.
ReplyDeleteBut then I decided that was immature. Should have stuck with it.
