2011 Topps #146 Roy Halladay HL

Phillies 1, Astros 0
Game 146 - Wednesday Afternoon, September 14th in Houston

One Sentence Summary:  Roy Halladay pitched the Phillies into the postseason with a complete game shutout over the Astros.

What It Means:  With the win, the Phillies guaranteed themselves a place in the play-offs, marking the fifth consecutive year the team has made it to the postseason.  The Phils are now 95-51 and their magic number to clinch the division is down to four.

What Went Right:  Halladay (18-5) allowed six hits while striking out seven on the way to his eighth complete game of the season.

The Phillies posted their sole run when Shane Victorino doubled to lead-off the game and Placido Polanco singled him home.  Fortunately, one run was all Halladay needed.

Featured Card:  This 2011 Topps card pays tribute to Halladay's National League Cy Young Award-winning season in 2010.  I'm not exactly going out on a limb when I predict there will be a similar card for Halladay in the 2012 Topps set celebrating his 2011 season.

  1. Well, we could just as easily see a similar card for Hamels or Lee. However, your prediction is likely as safe as any other about the postseason awards.

  2. I know there have been co-MVP's in the past, but has there ever been a co-Cy Young? I'd like to see Halladay and Lee share it.
