Game 137 - Hoskins' Costly Error Leads to Loss

1991 Leaf #350
Marlins 6
, Phillies 5
Game 137 - Thursday Night, September 8th in Philadelphia
Record - 75-62, 3rd Place, 11 1/2 games behind the Mets

One Sentence Summary:  A costly Rhys Hoskins error and a shaky ninth inning from David Robertson led to this 6-5 loss to the Marlins.

What It Means:  The Marlins snapped a nine-game losing streak with this late win in Philly, and the Phillies missed out on completing the three-game sweep.

What Happened:  With the Phillies leading 5-4, Robertson entered the game in the ninth and gave up a lead-off double to Garrett Cooper.  Rhys Hoskins completely whiffed on a grounder to first from Joey Wendle, allowing Cooper to score as the tying run.  Brian Anderson then singled home Wendle to give the Marlins the lead and eventual win.  Earlier in the game, in happier times, Nick Maton homered in the third to get the Phillies on the board.  The Phillies would take the lead in the fifth on a two-run triple from Alec Bohm.

Featured Card:  On Thursday, Queen Elizabeth II passed away at the age of 96 after a 70 year reign as the Queen of the United Kingdom.  There have been 50 players born in the United Kingdom to play in the major leagues, according to Baseball Reference, including former Phillies pitcher Danny Cox, born in Northampton in 1959.  Cox appeared in 32 games for the Phillies between 1991 and 1992.
