One Sentence Summary: The Phillies won the game but lost reigning MVP Bryce Harper in the process, as the slugger left the game with a fractured left thumb.
What It Means: It was a bit surreal to listen to the end of this game while in a London hotel room on Sunday morning, getting ready for our day. I learned of Harper's injury after tuning in to the radio broadcast for the final three innings.
What Happened: Harper was hit with a Blake Snell fastball in the top of the fourth inning. The news was (and is still) grim and there's no timetable yet for Harper's return. In a three-run fifth inning, J.T. Realmuto hit a solo home run, Yairo Munoz drove home a second run with an RBI groundout and Kyle Schwarber added an RBI single. Alec Bohm doubled home Realmuto in the sixth for an insurance run.

Transaction: Connor Brogdon (rhp) was placed on the Covid injured list and Mark Appel (rhp) had his contract selected from Lehigh Valley. Appel was the first overall pick by the Astros in the June 2013 amateur player draft, and the Phillies acquired him from the Astros in December 2015 in the Ken Giles deal. Arm injuries have pestered Appel throughout his career, and after seven seasons in the minors dating back to 2013, and a brief retirement from the game, he's finally a big leaguer.
