Game 67 - Nola Dominates, Phils Pull Out Another Win

Phillies 2
, Nationals 1 (10 Innings)
Game 67 - Saturday Afternoon, June 18th in Washington
Record - 36-31, 3rd Place, 8 games behind the Mets

One Sentence Summary:  The Phillies were fortunately able to salvage this ballgame, and Aaron Nola's stellar performance, with a 10-inning, 2-1 win over the Nationals.

What It Means:  They'll go for a five-game sweep this afternoon, which would be their first five game road sweep since August 1980.  Good things happened that season.  (H/T Jayson Start Tweet.)

What Happened:  Nola went eight dominant innings, allowing four this and striking out eight.  Brad Hand attempted to close out the game and blew it.  Hand walked the lead-ff batter, Juan Soto, and he'd come around to score the tying run on a Lane Thomas single.  The Phillies had taken a 1-0 lead in the seventh on Yairo Munoz's second home run.  In the 10th, Rhys Hoskins singled home ghost runner Matt Vierling with the go-ahead run.  Seranthony Dominguez set the Nationals down in order in the bottom of the 10th, for his first save of the year and the team's 15th win in the their last 17 games.

Featured Card:  Nola deserved better than a no decision in this game.  Here's his card from the new team-issued photo card set.

Transactions:  Bailey Falter (lhp) was sent back down to Lehigh Valley.  Also, James Norwood (rhp) was traded to the Boston Red Sox for cash considerations, officially ending his short Phillies tenure.
