Game 50 - Yet Another Loss as May Mercifully Ends

2018 Topps Heritage #494
Giants 7
, Phillies 4 (11 Innings)
Game 50 - Tuesday Night, May 31st in Philadelphia
Record - 21-29, Tied for 3rd Place, 12 1/2 games behind the Mets

One Sentence Summary:  For the third game in a row, the bullpen couldn't get the job done in extra innings as the Phillies lost, 7-4, to the Giants.

What It Means:  After finishing April with an 11-11 record, the Phillies went 10-18 in May, dropping them to within a half game of fourth place.  The team is hard to watch (and root for) right now.

What Happened:  The game headed to extra innings with the score tied 3-3.  Jeurys Familia, pitching for the third day in a row and breaking manager Joe Girardi's self-imposed usage rule, was a one-man circus in the top of the 10th, forgetting to cover first on a ground ball to Rhys Hoskins, then dropping Hoskins' throw allowing the Giants to score a run.  He also had to tie his shoes multiple times.  The Phillies came back to tie the game again in the bottom of the 10th when Alec Bohm hit a perfectly placed single up the middle.  It was then Andrew Bellatti's turn to give up a few runs, which he did in the form of a double by Donovan Walton and a two-run home run by Joc Pederson.

Featured Card:  There's a good chance Familia never receives a Phillies baseball card, so here's a Topps Heritage card of his from a few years ago.

Field Report:  Jenna and I attended this game for a work function, enjoying the spacious air conditioned accommodations of one of the Bill Giles Party Suites - Suite 80.  The company was enjoyable, the game was mostly not.
