What It Means: For the time being, and until Zach Eflin comes back from injury, the Phillies starting pitching rotation is now Zack Wheeler, Aaron Nola, Kyle Gibson, Ranger Suarez and a coin flip between Matt Moore and Chase Anderson.
What Happened: Suarez threw three scoreless innings and was relieved by Hector Neris who threw two more scoreless frames. The Nationals took and then held a 3-2 lead heading into the ninth, with the Phillies bullpen again faltering. Ronald Torreyes and Travis Jankowski singled to start the ninth and Jean Segura doubled Torreyes home to tie the score. J.T. Realmuto followed with a two-run double to put the Phillies ahead for good.
Featured Card: The card for this summary could have easily gone to Segura, but it was Realmuto's clutch hit that gave the Phillies the lead.
Transactions: There were a flurry of pre-game moves. Brandon Kintzler (rhp) was released. Kintzler appeared in 29 games and was 2-1 with a 6.37 ERA. Andrew McCutchen (of) was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left knee ailment and Vince Velasquez (rhp) also landed on the injured list with a blister. Andrew Knapp (c) was activated from the paternity leave list and Enyel De Los Santos (rhp) was recalled.
