Game 31 - 2021 Topps Heritage #409 Didi Gregorius

Phillies 5
, Brewers 4
Game 31 - Wednesday Night, May 5th in Philadelphia
Record - 16-15, 1st Place, 1 game ahead of the Mets

One Sentence Summary:  The Phillies made five first inning runs stand up in this 5-4 win over the Brewers.

What It Means:  That's three wins in a row for the Phillies, and they'll go for the improbably four-game series sweep against the Brewers this afternoon.

What Happened:  Andrew McCutchen doubled to lead off the game and was singled home by Rhys Hoskins.  A few batters later, Didi Gregorius connected for a grand slam off Brewers' starting pitcher Freddy Peralta.  Chase Anderson went 4 1/3 innings and was touched for three runs.  The unlikely bullpen trio of Brandon Kintzler, Matt Moore (who hadn't pitched in 18 days) and Enyel De Los Santos (making his first appearance in the majors since 2019) pitched 3 1/3 scoreless innings.  Jose Alvarado struck out two on the way to recording his second save.

Featured Card:  The grand slam was Gregorius' first of the season, his third with the Phillies and the eighth of his career.

Transactions:  In what's now a daily occurrence, the Phillies continued to tweak their roster, losing two outfielders to injury.  Roman Quinn (of) and Matt Joyce (of) landed on the injured list with a lacerated finger and a calf strain respectively.  Scott Kingery (of) and Matt Moniak (of) were recalled from Lehigh Valley.
