One Sentence Summary: The Phillies barely hung on to defeat the Brewers, 4-3, on a surprisingly strong start from Vince Velasquez and a two-run home run from J.T. Realmuto.
What It Means: Velasquez, filling in for Matt Moore in the rotation, allowed a first inning home run but then settled in to throw five scoreless innings. He struck out six on the way to his first victory of 2021.
What Happened: Realmuto put the Phillies ahead for good with his third home run of the year in the bottom of the first. Roman Quinn tripled home Odubel Herrera in the second and then came in to score on a Velasquez ground out. It got tense in the eighth when Connor Brogdon started the inning with two walks and a single. Brogdon retired Travis Shaw with a sacrifice fly, but then Hector Neris was called in from the bullpen to attempt a five-out save. Neris got out of the eighth and loaded the bases in the ninth, before Lorenzo Cain struck out swinging to end the game.

Transaction: Cristopher Sanchez (lhp) was recalled from Lehigh Valley with Scott Kingery (inf) getting sent back down. Additionally Jose Alvarado (lhp) began serving his two-game suspension for his role in clearing the benches in the Mets game on Friday night.
