Game 106 - 2018 Topps National Baseball Card Day SGA #PH-5 Aaron Nola

Red Sox 2, Phillies 1 (13)
Game 106 - Monday Night, July 30th in Boston
Record - 58-48, 1st place, 1/2 game ahead of the Braves

One Sentence Summary:  Bad baserunning and defensive mistakes from Odubel Herrera cost the Phillies this game and wasted an amazing outing from Aaron Nola.

What It Means:  The Phillies have lost four in a row and the Braves are now just a half game behind them for the lead in the division.

What Happened:  Nola dominated the potent Red Sox offense through eight innings, allowing a run on four hits while striking out six.  In the 13th, Austin Davis allowed a lead-off single to Eduardo Nunez and Luis Garcia relieved him on the mound.  Garcia struck out Brock Holt before Blake Swihart's ground-rule double to right-center ended the game.

Herrera got himself tagged out at third base in the 3rd inning during a completely botched run-down play.  He then badly misplayed a ball off the bat of Nunez in the 5th that sailed over his head allowing the Red Sox to score their first run.

The Phillies managed a lone run from a RBI-single from Maikel Franco in the 2nd as the offense left 12 men on base and went 2 for 9 with runners in scoring position.

Featured Card:  On July 24th, the Phillies handed out packs of Topps baseball cards to fans attending that night's game as part of the annual National Baseball Card Day promotion.  There are 10 cards needed to complete the Phillies team set, including this card for Nola.
