1985 Fleer #253 Von Hayes

Cardinals 6, Phillies 5
Game 61 - Sunday Afternoon, June 11th in St. Louis
Record - 21-40, 5th place

One Sentence Summary:  Dexter Fowler's three-run home run off Aaron Nola in the fifth put the Cardinals ahead for good and sealed the sweep against the Phils.

What It Means:  Since May 28th, the Phillies have lost five in a row, won four in a row and now have lost another five in a row.  They'll head to Boston for a four-game away-and-home series against the Red Sox next.

What Happened:  Nola's big mistake was the pitch to Fowler resulting in the three-run homer and erasing the Phillies' 2-0 lead.  The Phils tried to mount a comeback in the ninth, scoring two before Tommy Joseph flew out with runners on first and second to end the game.

Featured Card:  In terms of the 2017 version of the Phillies, I got nothing.  During the telecast of this game, it was mentioned it was the 32nd anniversary of the biggest game of Von Hayes' career. On June 11, 1985, the Phillies defeated the Mets by a score of 26-7, with Hayes hitting two first inning home runs.  There was a 1985 Donruss Highlights card and a 1986 Tastykake Phillies card issued to commemorate the event, but I've already featured those two cards on the blog.  Here's another of Hayes' 1985 cards from the underrated 1985 Fleer set.

Transaction:  Cesar Hernandez was placed on the disabled list with an injured oblique.  Howie Kendrick will move from the outfield to second to fill the void temporarily.  Joaquin Benoit was activated from the disabled list.
