Rays 8, Phillies 0
Spring Training Game 24 - Sunday Afternoon, March 19th in Port Charlotte
Record - 9-12-3
One Sentence Summary: The Rays nearly pitched a perfect game against the punchless Phillies in this lopsided 8-0 loss.
What It Means: Help us Matt Stairs, you're our only hope.
What Happened: Tommy Joseph doubled with one out in the eighth to ruin the perfect game bid, and that was one of only two hits from the Phils in this game. Jared Eickhoff appears ready for the regular season, as the young pitcher struck out nine in his six innings of work while allowing two runs on four hits. Non-roster pitcher Cesar Ramos suffered a nightmare 1 1/3 innings against the Rays, allowing six runs (five earned) on five hits and three walks.
Featured Card: Here's a preview of what Joseph's base card in this year's Topps flagship should look like, courtesy of the recently released Topps Opening Day set. My wife was kind enough to buy a blaster of Topps Opening Day during one of her Target visits, and this was the only Phillies card I pulled from the box.
