1970 Topps #378
1970 Topps #583
1970 Topps Appreciation:  For seven seasons between 1964 and 1970, Jim Davenport and Hal Lanier were teammates with the Giants.  They'd miss a reunion in Philadelphia years later when Davenport coached for the team in 1986 and 1987 and Lanier was with the club in 1990 and 1991.

Davenport was wrapping up his 13-year career, all with the Giants, in 1970.  Their primary third baseman in the late 1950s and early 1960s, Davenport was an All-Star in 1962 and finished his career with a .258 average, 77 home runs and 456 RBIs.  He also won a Gold Glove in 1962 and helped the Giants to the World Series, where they were defeated by the Yankees in seven games.  After more than 40 years with the Giants as a player, coach and manager, Davenport left the organization in 1985 after being fired as their manager and replaced by Roger Craig.  He joined John Felske's coaching staff the following season, and departed following the 1987 season along with Felske.  Davenport passed away this past February.

The son of pitcher Max Lanier, Hal Lanier played both second base and shortstop for the Giants between 1964 and 1971.  In his 10 year career, Lanier hit just .228 and he'd go on to find more success as a manager.  Lanier managed the Astros between 1986 and 1988, leading them to the N.L.C.S. in 1986.  He'd join Nick Leyva's coaching staff with the Phillies in 1990, and was fired after spending the 1991 season as Jim Fregosi's bench coach.  Lanier has spent the past 20 years managing in the independent leagues, and he's the current manager for the Ottawa Champions in the Cam-Am Association.
