2015 Phillies Team Issue 2 #37 Odubel Herrera

Phillies 4, Padres 2
Game 111 - Late Saturday Night, August 8th in San Diego
Record - 44-67, 4th Place, 15 1/2 games behind the Mets

One Sentence Summary:  Led by Chase Utley, Cesar Hernandez and Odubel Herrera at the top of the line-up, the Phillies downed the Padres, 4-2.

What It Means:  The Phillies are out of the N.L. East cellar and for the first time since June 8th, they don't own the worst record in baseball.  The next goal?  They'll need to go 19-32 to avoid 100 losses.  The stretch goal?  A record of 38-13 gets them a winning record for the season which seems improbable . . . but not impossible.

What Happened:  Utley had two doubles and scored twice in the win.  Hernandez had a pair of hits, including a big RBI-triple in the eighth.  Adam Morgan allowed two runs (one earned) in his six innings of work to earn his third win.  Jeanmar Gomez, Luis Garcia and Ken Giles continued their late inning dominance, shutting down the Padres over the final three frames.

Featured Card:  Herrera was responsible for the team's first three runs.  He singled home Utley in the first, stole second, went to third on a ground-out and scored on a wild pitch.  In the third, he drove home Hernandez with an RBI single to right.  I'm hoping it's only a matter of time before Herrera starts appearing in additional upcoming Topps releases.  For now, this is the third and final card of his in my collection.

  1. Woohoo! Go, you crazy Phillies, GO!

Have I ever mentioned the amount of pure disdain I have for the Marlins? :-)

  2. These are confusing times in The Phillies Room. I find myself rooting for the Mets these days as I love the thought of Papelbon and the Nationals completely missing the postseason. Confusing times indeed.

This rooting for the Mets thing is unexpected and unnatural.
