2015 Phillies Team Issue #37 Odubel Herrera

Phillies 3, Nationals 2 (10 Innings)
Game 5 - Saturday Night, April 11th in Philadelphia
Record - 3-2, 2nd Place, 2 games behind the Braves

One Sentence Summary:  Odubel Herrera doubled down the right field line to score the winning run and notch his first big league hit in a 3-2 extra-inning win over the Nationals.

What It Means:  It means the Phillies won the series against the Nationals, and they have a winning record for the first time since last May 4th.

What Happened:  The Phillies finally scored in the eighth after starting pitcher Cole Hamels had departed with (yet again) no run support.  An RBI double from Ryan Howard gave the Phils their first run and Carlos Ruiz tied it up with single to center.  Herrera's heroics were set up in the 10th by another single from Ruiz.

The game had stayed tied heading to the bottom of the 10th thanks to an outfield assist from Ben Revere, who surprisingly threw out Michael Taylor trying to score.  Dustin McGowan pitched a scoreless top of the 10th and earned his first Phillies victory.

Featured Card:  Rule 5 pick Herrera has only one Phillies card to his name at this point, and it can be found within the postcard-sized team issued set.  It's surprising to me that (at least according to the Beckett database) Herrera has yet to appear on any baseball cards.  I would think that somewhere along the line he's appeared in at least a few Rangers minor league team sets.
