2007 Chachi #54 Phillies Sweep Mets HL

Mets 6, Phillies 1
Game 9 - Wednesday Night, April 15th in Flushing
Record - 3-6, Tied for 2nd Place, 3 games behind the Braves and Mets

One Sentence Summary:  The offense couldn't execute and the pitching was suspect in a 6-1 Phillies loss to the Mets.

What It Means:  The Phillies were swept by the Mets, and they've lost four in a row.  They'll open a four game series against the Nationals in Washington tonight.

What Happened:  The offense went 2 for 16 with runners in scoring position.  Odubel Herrera had two doubles and a triple while Cody Asche had three more hits to raise his average to an even .500, but it was all for naught.  A night after his offensive outburst, Chase Utley went 0 for 5.

Jerome Williams allowed five runs (four earned) in five innings pitched to earn the loss.

Featured Card:  I don't like to repeat myself on this blog, but certain situations just call for certain cards.  The Phils were swept right on out of Flushing last night, which got me reminiscing about better times and a better team.  I originally posted this card at the end of the 2012 season (The Phillies Room didn't exist in 2007) and here's what I wrote then:
This card highlights the defining moment of the 2007 season, when the Phillies took advantage of the Mets' complete and total collapse to win their first of five division titles.  In late August, the Phils completed a four-game sweep of the first place Mets, drawing them to within two games of the top spot in the East.  I'll never forget the entire team streaming out of the dugout to celebrate when Chase Utley knocked in Tadahito Iguchi with the winning run in the fourth game.  The team had so much ahead of them then - a World Championship in 2008, a return trip to the World Series in 2009 and a record-setting 102-win season in 2011.
The 2012 season is all but over, but I'd like to think (and hope) that the team has so much more ahead of them.  Come April 2013, it will be time to start another Golden Era.
The new Golden Era didn't begin in April 2013 and it definitely won't begin in April 2015.

  1. Seeing that card, I assume I am right on time to say Happy Opposite Day!
