2014 Phillies Team Issue 2 #38 Kyle Kendrick

Phillies 4, Braves 0
Game 138 - Tuesday Night, September 2nd in Atlanta
Record - 64-74

One Sentence Summary:  Kyle Kendrick pitched by far his best game of the season, as the Phillies shut out the Braves for the second game in a row, 4-0.

What It Means:  What is happening?  The Phillies have held the Braves offense to three hits over the last two games.  They need to go 17-7 the rest of the way to finish at .500 and 18-6 to finish with a winning record.

What Happened:  Kendrick wriggled out of a bases loaded situation in the first, and then settled in to mow down the Braves over the next six innings.  Ken Giles and Antonio Bastardo struck out five Braves over the final two frames to clinch the win.

Carlos Ruiz led the offense with an RBI double and a solo home run (his 5th) in the fifth.  Darin Ruf also had an RBI single, and he's hitting .429 (12 for 28) in his last 12 games.

Featured Card:  Could this be Kendrick's final Phillies card?  The long-time Phillie is a free agent following this season, and all indications are that he'll ride into the sunset with a new team.

Transactions:  The Phillies added seven players to their roster on Monday evening, with the most notable names being third base prospect Maikel Franco and Cuban starter-turned-relief pitcher Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez.  Franco made his Major League debut in this game, going 0 for 3.

Also added were catcher Cameron Rupp, infielder Cesar Hernandez, outfielder Tony Gwynn, Jr., and pitchers Mike Adams and Luis Garcia.
