2014 Panini Prizm #49 A.J. Burnett

Phillies 6, Nationals 2
Game 93 - Friday Night, July 11th in Philadelphia
Record - 42-51, 5th Place, 8 games behind the Braves and Nationals

One Sentence Summary:  A.J. Burnett had another strong outing and Jimmy Rollins hit two home runs as the Phillies defeated the Nationals, 6-2.

What It Means:  It means the Phillies had a modest little five-game winning streak following their win in the series opener against Washington.

What Happened:  Burnett pitched into the eighth inning allowing two runs while striking out five.  Ken Giles recorded the final four outs of the game in what seems like another of his warm-ups for the eventual closer's role.  Along with Rollins' two home runs, the other big hit was a two-run double from Domonic Brown in the second.

Featured Card:  With each game that goes by, I get the sense we're watching Burnett's short Phillies career come to a close.  The veteran pitcher is sure to draw plenty of interest from contending teams as the non-waiver trade deadline approaches, and it will be a shame that Burnett's tenure with the club was so short.  He's been a welcome presence on the mound and by accounts he's helped mentor the Phillies young pitching staff as well.

  1. That's a relatively decent-looking card, for something that's unlicensed. Is that a throwback uniform he's wearing? ..or a photo shop job? The chromey nature of the card makes it a little hard to tell what's distortion and what's photoshop.

  2. I believe it's actually a red Pirates throw-back uniform worn last season by Burnett. Panini got lucky when he signed with the Phillies - there wasn't much to alter.
