Nationals 8, Phillies 4
Game 58 - Wednesday Night, June 4th in Washington
Record - 24-33, 5th Place, 6 1/2 games behind the Braves
One Sentence Summary: Storm clouds continue to follow the Phillies, as they lost 8-4 to the Nationals in a game that was never even really close.
What It Means: This was the team's fifth loss in a row, placing them a season-high nine games under .500. Following this game, only the Cubs (34) and Diamondbacks (36) had more losses in the National League than the Phillies.
What Happened: It was A.J. Burnett's turn to get knocked around, as the starting pitcher allowed all eight Nationals runs in his six innings of work. John Mayberry, Jr. hit a pinch-two-run home run in the seventh to at least make the final score a little more respectable. A nearly two hour rain delay in the seventh only temporarily delayed the inevitable loss.
Featured Card: You know it's going poorly for your team when the most exciting thing to happen yesterday was the confirmation that former manager Charlie Manuel had joined Twitter. I bet he's kind of glad he's not sitting in the dugout anymore.
i'm happy i'm away and can't see these games until they're over.....
