2013 Grandstand Reading Fightin Phils #13 Cameron Rupp

Padres 8, Phillies 2
Game 144 - Tuesday Night, September 10th in Philadelphia
Record - 66-78, 3rd Place, 21 games behind the Braves

One Sentence Summary:  Tyler Cloyd and reliever Zach Miner were treated rather poorly in a lopsided 8-2 loss to the Padres.

What It Means:  The Phillies were officially eliminated from the N.L. East race with the Braves win on Monday night, and each day brings them closer to elimination from the Wild Card race.

What Went Wrong:  Cloyd was re-inserted back into the rotation when Ethan Martin was sent to the bullpen.  He allowed seven runs on nine hits in his four innings of work.  Padres starter Andrew Cashner allowed just two runs over 7 2/3 innings, including a solo home run to Cody Asche.

Featured Card:  Catcher Cameron Rupp made his Major League debut in this game, and he barely legged out an infield single in the eighth for his first big league hit.  Rupp's first mainstream card can be found in the 2010 Bowman Draft Prospects set.  He's in the much celebrated (at least on this blog) IronPigs update set, and he's also in the Reading Fightin Phils update set which is the card I decided to go with here.  It's a great card, but I'd like it even more if the Good Neighbor Pharmacy logo was gone and in its place was Rupp's floating head.  (See here for reference, with a hat tip to The Shlabotnik Report.)

9/11:  In case you missed it, back in February I took a look at one of the more iconic Phillies Topps cards ever released.  I tried to identify each Phillies player featured on the card included with the 2002 Topps United We Stand subset.

It's hard for me to believe that that awful day was already 12 years ago.
