Phillies 5, Rockies 4
Game 127 - Thursday Night, August 22nd in Philadelphia
Record - 57-70, 4th Place, 20 games behind the Braves
One Sentence Summary: For the second night in a row, the Phillies rallied in the ninth to defeat the Rockies.
What It Means: This team still has life! Granted the Rockies are a second tier team this year, like the Phils, but it was still nice to take three of four in this series. The Braves lost, so the Phils gained an important game in the standings on the first place team. (I kid.)
What Went Right: This win was even more impression as all the action in the ninth occurred with two outs. Jimmy Rollins doubled and promptly stole third. Rollins was then able to score on a soft ground ball to short from Michael Young that Troy Tulowitzki was unable to handle. Chase Utley worked a walk, sending Young to second, and Domonic Brown single to right to score Young and start the on-field celebration.
Darin Ruf got the Phillies back into the game with a two-run home run in the eighth.
Featured Card: Brown delivered the big hit, but it was Rollins' head's-up steal of third that allowed the Phillies to score the tying run and set up the win.
Field Report: And we were there! My personal record is now a less depressing 4-8. The bad news about being there was it was a little sad seeing the ballpark so empty, and at one point we had our row entirely to ourselves. The good news about the sparse crowd is that it made it much easier for Jenna to finally win the team's nightly Tweet Your Ticket contest! Jenna was the lucky recipient of a Phanatic t-shirt, and the Phillies Tweeted out our smiling faces for all to see.
