2013 Panini Triple Play #64 Carlos Ruiz

Phillies 3, Dodgers 2
Game 123 - Sunday Afternoon, August 18th in Philadelphia
Record - 54-69, 4th Place, 21 1/2 games behind the Braves

One Sentence Summary:  The Phils stuck with it and won 3-2 after Dodgers shortstop Hanley Ramirez committed two costly ninth inning errors.

What It Means:  It means interim manager Ryne Sandberg has his first win since taking over for Charlie Manuel on Friday.  The Phillies will try to win their second in a row when the Rockies come to town for a four-game series starting tonight.

What Went Right:  Carlos Ruiz paced the offense with a four-hit game, and it was his hit in the ninth that brought Casper Wells into scoring position.  Wells had reached to start the inning on Ramirez's first error of the inning and he'd score on his second error when Ramirez couldn't handle a ground ball hit by pinch-hitter Michael Young.

Cole Hamels pitched another solid game, holding the Dodgers to two runs on seven hits while striking out eight.  Darin Ruf hit his 8th home run in the fourth inning.

Featured Card:  It's been a lost year for Chooch, as evidenced by the fact that this is the first time he's been featured in a game summary post.  It's likely that the popular catcher's time with the club is coming to a close, as he's a free agent following the season.  At least the folks at Panini gave him a better card than what they gave Hamels.
