2013 Topps 1972 Topps Mini #TM-92 Cole Hamels

Phillies 6, Pirates 4
Game 86 - Thursday Afternoon, July 4th in Pittsburgh
Record - 41-45, 3rd Place, 8 1/2 games behind the Braves

One Sentence Summary:  Cole Hamels turned in a solid outing and the Phils came up with a few timely hits, as they defeated the Pirates on Independence Day, 6-4.

What It Means:  The Phillies notched their first series win in Pittsburgh since 2008 and they'll try to keep the positive momentum going with a weekend series at home against the Braves, starting tonight.

What Went Right:  Hamels claimed only his third win of the season after pitching seven strong innings and allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits.  He struck out eight Pirates.  Jonathan Papelbon, who could be heading to a contender before the non-waiver trade deadline, earned his 17th save.

Ben Revere raised his average to .290 with another three-hit day and he also drove in a pair of runs.  Carlos Ruiz had a huge two-run single in the sixth to put the Phils ahead for good.

Featured Card:  I still don't understand why these retro 1972 Topps-style insert cards need to be mini cards, but they're cool nevertheless.  Topps added 50 more cards to this set in its recently released Series 2 release, including this card for Hamels.
