Phillies at Padres: June 24th to June 26th

Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday 10:10
Petco Park - San Diego, CA

At the Ballpark:  Tomorrow night, the Padres will host a San Diego Fire-Rescue salute.

1973 Topps Flashback:  One of the more iconic cards from the entire 1973 Topps set is the subject of today's flashback.  Before he managed the Phillies to a 132-115 record from 1982 to the middle of 1983, Pat Corrales was a Major League catcher for parts of nine seasons.  Corrales came up with the Phillies, playing in two games in 1964 and 63 games in 1965.  He was part of the six-player trade with the Cardinals in October 1965 that brought Dick Groat, Bob Uecker and Bill White to Philly.

Corrales played only 28 games with the Cardinals before moving on to the Reds where he was Johnny Bench's back-up from 1968 to 1971.  Corrales ended his playing career with 73 games with the Padres in 1972 and 1973.

1973 Topps #542
Thanks to some fine detective work over at Uncle Doc's Card Closet, we now know that the play on Corrales' amazing 1973 Topps card took place on June 14, 1972, at Wrigley Field.  Corrales has just tagged out former teammate Fergie Jenkins, who was trying to score on a Don Kessinger double in the bottom of the second inning.

No pitching probables or Phillies team leaders in this game summary post, as I'm currently away from The Phillies Room HQ and the blog is on auto-pilot.
