Game 64 - Sunday Afternoon, June 9th in Milwaukee
Record - 31-33
One Sentence Summary: The Phillies struggled to pitch, hit and catch the ball as the Brewers won easily, 9-1.
What It Means: The Phillies lost the game and the series to the Brewers, negating any good feelings they had generated after sweeping the Marlins.
What Went Wrong: Everything went wrong. Starter Jonathan Pettibone was roughed up with six runs (four earned) in 5 1/3 innings. The offense managed just five hits, with their lone run coming on a Humberto Quintero home run in the eighth.
Former Phillie Kyle Lohse pitched like Cy Young, scattering four hits over his eight innings of work.
Featured Card: Thinking about this game makes me cranky. For helping to ruin the first Major League postseaon game I ever attended, Lohse makes me cranky.
Lohse earned one Phillies baseball card in 2007 for his 13 games with the club - the Topps Update card featured here. The folks at Topps gave us an altered photo of Lohse wearing a Phillies spring training uniform, despite the fact that the pitcher never actually spent a spring with the club. He would appear in three more Phillies cards in 2008 - Topps Heritage, Upper Deck and Upper Deck First Edition - before the baseball card makers realized we Phillies collectors didn't need any more Lohse cards in our collections. Onward.
He's still a bum.
