Game 27 - Tuesday Night, April 30th in Cleveland
Record - 12-15, 3rd Place, 5 1/2 games behind the Braves
One Sentence Summary: The Indians absolutely demolished Roy Halladay and the Phillies, winning easily by a score of 14-2.
What It Means: So much for momentum. Coming off the weekend sweep of the Mets, the Phillies had a chance to pull within one game of .500 with a win last night, but they were in the hole early and never recovered.
What Went Wrong: Halladay allowed two first inning home runs and before new Phillie Delmon Young could get comfortable in red pinstripes, it was 4-0 Indians. Halladay's final line was ugly - 3 2/3 innings pitched, eight runs on nine hits, including three home runs. Chad Durbin did his best to put the game completely out of reach by giving up four more runs in his 1 1/3 innings of work.
Young was activated yesterday afternoon and made his debut as the Phillies' designated hitter. On the third pitch he saw, Young homered to right-center. Chase Utley added a solo home run (his team-leading fifth) in the sixth inning.
Featured Card: Ezequiel Carrera, we hardly knew you! To make room for Young on the roster, Carrera was designated for assignment. The Indians waived Carrera before their season started, and the Phillies claimed Carrera figuring he'd be an upgrade over Rule 5 selection Ender Inciarte. In 13 games with the Phils, Carrera played all three outfield positions and went 1 for 13 (.077) with a walk and four strikeouts. He'll join the ranks of the rest of the Missing Links, who are those unfortunate former Phillies without any Phillies baseball cards.
Well, he doesn't have any "real" Phillies baseball cards at least. His Chachi card, which in my humble opinion captures the essence of the 1973 Topps set, will follow later today.
