When I read about the name of this set back in 2010, I actually said out loud to myself, "My Mom never threw out any of my cards."
And she didn't. She encouraged my collecting habit, just like she's encouraged me in every single endeavor throughout my life. Over the past few years, she's tracked down stunning older Phillies cards for my collection, much to my amazement. So not only did my Mom never throw out any of my older cards, she's still making sure I'm adding older cards to my growing collection.
While the name of this baseball card set is cute, it's completely inaccurate in my case. For that, and for more reasons than could ever fit on this blog, I'm forever grateful to my Mom.
You're lucky. When I was away on vacation in 2010, my Mom, in an attempt to make Topps honest, sneaked into my house using her spare key, picked the originals of these 174 cards from my collection, and actually did throw them out. Then she replaced them with the original back versions from the CYMTO collection...
ReplyDeleteI only found out when I noticed that my PSA-graded '52 Mantle was looking a bit smaller and glossier than usual. The realization of what she had done then hit me like a ton of bricks.
Mom, you rascal you!
My Mom never threw out my cards from back in the day (1967-72, baseball and football), although I distinctly remember losing some 1968 football cards (such as Eagles' K Sam Baker) which I've since replaced.
