Anyone following the Reading Phillies re-naming debacle? Sigh. I have been to at least one game there every season since 1976 or 1977, but this depresses me. I'll still go, but I'm not buying any merchandise of the new team!
One of many stories about it: http://readingeagle.com/article.aspx?id=425657
I still don't like the idea of ditching a name you had for 46 years, for the almost certain reason that they want to sell more jerseys.
The identity of the team was the R-Phils or the Reading Phils or the Reading Phillies or, on occasion, the Little Phils. That is an identity separate and apart from the Phillies.

I think people might be pleasantly surprised:

Pleasantly surprised only in the context of I went from a 100 in my general R-Phils enthusiasm to a 50, and I am not back at 80.
ReplyDeleteBut it's better than the Reading Rainbows or Reading Flying Squirrels.
Make that "now" back at 80.

It's a money grab, pure and simple.
