2012 Topps Archives #188 Vance Worley

Phillies 8, Rockies 5
Game 89 - Saturday Night, July 14th in Denver
Record - 38-51, 5th Place, 14 games behind the Nationals

One Sentence Summary:  Vance Worley paced the team with his arm and his bat as the Phillies survived another shaky outing from the bullpen to win, 8-5.

What It Means:  It feels good to win.  It's been a while.  The Phillies go for the series win this afternoon before heading off to Los Angeles for some late night baseball.

What Went Right:  Worley pitched into the seventh inning, allowing just two runs on eight hits.  On the mound, the highlight of his night came when he struck out Michael Cuddyer with the bases loaded in the fifth.  At the plate, Worley slugged a two-out, two-run double in the sixth to give the Phils a 6-2 lead.

Carlos Ruiz continued his career season with a three-run home run in the first.  And perhaps most promising was the fact that the top of the line-up (Jimmy Rollins, Shane Victorino and Chase Utley) went 7 for 15 with 4 runs scored and 3 RBIs in the win.

Featured Card:  For just the second time this season, Worley earns the featured card honors.  This is his 1984-Topps style card from the Topps Archives set, released way back in mid-May.
