What It Means: It means there's now a very small part of me that wishes the National League used a designated hitter.
What Went Right: The Phillies jumped ahead to a 6-0 lead and then somehow held off the Twins through the final few innings to escape with the one-run victory. Thome went 2 for 4 with a monster two-run home run in the fourth over the center field batter's eye. Mayberry contributed a three-run home run in the first and an RBI-double in the third.
Cole Hamels got knocked around a bit, giving up seven runs (six earned) on eight hits, including two home runs. But he still notched his ninth win after Jonathan Papelbon's four-out save.
Featured Card: This card is perfect for last night's game. Thome's jaw actually dropped upon making contact with the ball as he knew his blast in the fourth was going to be a long one. The official distance of the home run was 466 feet. "You never know when those moments are going to keep coming, and you cherish them," Thome said of the home run.
