2008 Chachi #5 Pat Burrell

Mets 5, Phillies 2
Game 7 - Friday Night, April 13th in Philadelphia
Record - 3-4, Tied for 3rd Place, 2 1/2 games behind the Nationals

One Sentence Summary:  Knuckle-baller R.A. Dickey foiled the Phillies offense as the Mets took game one of the series, 5-2.

What It Means:  So much for sweeping the Mets.

What Went Wrong:  The Mets jumped on Cliff Lee early and never looked back.  New York had a 3-0 lead ten minutes into the game following doubles from Ruben Tejeda and Daniel Murphy and a bomb of a home run from Jason Bay.  Lee settled down after the first, but the deficit was too much for the offense to overcome.  Dickey held the team to one run over his seven innings of work while striking out seven.

The Phillies outhit the Mets 11-6, but they couldn't string together a rally.  Jimmy Rollins had three hits on the night and Freddy Galvis hit his first Major League home run.

Featured Card:  Over the past few days, the Phillies announced a few interesting transactions.  This afternoon, they announced the signing of utility infielder Mike Fontenot to a minor league contract.  Fontenot will report to extended spring training in Clearwater, and he'll provide a little more infield depth to an area depleted by injuries.

Yesterday, the Phillies announced that Pat Burrell will sign a one-day contract with the team in May and immediately retire as a Phillie.  In recent years, the team has made similar arrangements with Mike Lieberthal and Doug Glanville, and it's a nice gesture to the man who was the Grand Marshal at the team's 2008 World Series victory parade down Broad Street.  Featured here is Pat the Bat's Chachi card from the magical '08 season.

And One More Thing:  Hard to believe it's been three years since we lost Harry the K.
