Who do you think will make the post-season roster?
ReplyDeleteI'd say:
Pitchers (11): Halladay, Lee, Hamels, Oswalt, Madson, Lidge, Worley, Kendrick, Bastardo, Stutes, Blanton.
Regulars (8): (duh)
Bench(6): Schneider, Gload, Valdez, Martinez, Mayberry, Francisco
Blanton has pitched better in 2 weeks than Herndon has all year, so the ability to contribute should take precedence over hurting someone's feelings.
No way Dom Brown should make the roster. He hasn't shown the ability to excel at the AAA level. Plus, they don't need 7 bench players.
Gload has played too much recently (and in the field!) to make me think he's NOT in Charlie's plans.
Francisco is ok in a pinch-hitting role.
Bowker has shown nothing. Also no way Orr or Schwimmer makes it aside from injuries to others.
Savery will make it if Bastardo continues to struggle, if only to have ONE lefty with his head on straight. But at whose expence? Blanton? Francisco?
I think you've got it. Amaro has hinted at carrying 11 pitchers, at least in the first round. Savery, Brown and De Fratus are all heading to Clearwater in order to stay sharp in case they're needed down the road.
ReplyDeleteIt concerns me that we're going with three guys in the 'pen (Kendrick, Worley and Blanton) more suited to starting than relieving. But honestly, who would we take in their places? (Not Herndon.)
They just need (I hate when someone uses this term) innings-eaters between the starters and Madson. I'd rather see Worley and even Kendrick than Bastardo & Lidge right now.
ReplyDeleteLidge has been decent recently, and thankfully Bastardo looked OK last night. Savery intrigues me, especially since teams haven't seen him before.
