2009 Topps #103 Kyle Kendrick

Phillies 5, Rockies 0
Game 109 - Tuesday Night, August 2nd in Denver

One Sentence Summary:  Kyle Kendrick and Ryan Howard starred in the Phillies shutout win over the Rockies.

What It Means:  The Phillies improved to 70-39, reaching the 70-win plateau in the second quickest number of games in franchise history.  The 1976 club reached that mark in its 104th game.  The Braves lost their game, so the Phils pulled ahead in the East by eight games.

What Went Right:  Kendrick (6-5), on his way back to the bullpen once Roy Oswalt is activated this weekend, pitched eight solid innings and set a career high with seven strikeouts.  He allowed just four hits while walking two.

Howard sparked the offense with two solo home runs - his 22nd and 23rd of the year.  New-comer Hunter Pence had two doubles in the win.

Featured Card:  Here's the deal.  I happen to be down at the shore this week, frolicking in the sand by day and enjoying the boardwalk and all its culinary delights by night.  So in order to post these game summary posts* with a relevant baseball card, I'm scouring Google Images or eBay for a nice, clear scan of a card from the interwebs.  My only conditions are that it has to be a card I haven't featured on the blog yet, and it has to be a card actually in my collection.

*Some readers may be thinking, "Why does he continue to post these things while on vacation?"  It's simple - I like doing it, it's fun and relaxing and my wife checks the blog daily for updates after we've got the kids in bed.  So this one is for you, Jenna.  (Thanks for splittling the 50 steamed shrimp with me tonight.)
