Hope

1984 Donruss #541
Marlins 6Phillies 4
Game 30 - Friday Night, May 6th in Miami
Record - 16-14, 4th place, 3 1/2 games behind the Nationals

One Sentence Summary:  Giancarlo Stanton's monster home run in the eighth inning off Hector Neris gave the Marlins a 6-4 victory.

What It Means:  It means the Phils have dropped out of a tie for third and they're now back in sole possession of fourth place.

What Happened:  Vince Velasquez had a rough first two innings, allowing four Marlins runs, but then he calmed down to pitch four more relatively quiet innings.  Maikel Franco hit his sixth home run in the fifth and Odubel Herrera enjoyed a three-hit game to raise his average to .330.

Featured Card:  This blog is a refuge for me.  I don't do it to break news or be the sole source of Phillies and/or baseball card related content.  My life is fairly hectic, until recently in mostly a good way, and this blog has served as a way for me to unwind after a long day.  I enjoy the daily ritual of it. I enjoy sharing reports from games I've attended with my sons.  I like the camaraderie of receiving and trading comments with other baseball card bloggers.  I enjoy collecting baseball cards.

For personal reasons I won't go into here, life has recently taken an unexpected left turn.

I want to continue my daily ritual of coming to this sanctuary of a blog where there's no unexpected left turns, no outside noise and no harshness of real life.  I want to, but I may not be able to.  I fully plan on stopping here daily, but those left turns might prove to be too much right now.

I long for the days when a 1984 Donruss Bob Dernier baseball card was all I needed to make me smile.

One of my favorite all-time movies is The Shawshank Redemption, and I've had this quote rattling around in my confused head recently.  "Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies."

Hoping along with you.

Best wishes to you Jim, as you navigate your left turns.

Between you, me, Phungo, The Other World, and a few others, there are lots of Phillies cards already posted. When creating new posts regularly is not feasible, we can always comment on those players already posted.

You started with Bobby D. I'll counter with...I dunno...Bo Belinsky!
